Prepare for a career + beyond
Merchandising and Design students go on to pursue a range of careers associated with their fields. Equipped with a broad liberal arts education and in-depth knowledge in their major, our students graduate ready to apply their creativity and critical thinking skills in a variety of commercial, entrepreneurial, and academic settings.
Our graduates can be found throughout the U.S. Many secure regional positions in locations like Indianapolis, Chicago, Cincinnati, and Columbus, OH while others venture to major metropolitan areas like New York, Philadelphia, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and New Orleans.
Students have extensive opportunities to interact with recruiters and learn about leading retailers and companies through career fairs, class lectures, and sponsored activities by student groups such as Retail Studies Organization and Design Student Studies Organization.
Field seminars to New York, Paris, and London lead by Apparel Merchandising and Fashion Design faculty give students an immersive experience in major fashion centers of the world. Students meet retail industry professionals, go behind-the-scenes of design showrooms and studios, and visit museum and private fashion collections.
Interior Design sponsors a summer study abroad program in Barcelona, Spain where students explore urban and industrial design while getting to know the city’s vibrant neighborhoods and architecture. The School of Public and Environmental Affairs offers short-term study experiences in Guatemala and Mexico led by Interior Design faculty. In partnership with the nonprofit Play360, students on these programs build community playgrounds and develop skills in leadership for the common good and purposeful change.
