Design Studies Student Organization (DSSO)
The Indiana University Design Studies Student Organization is made up of interior design students within the School of Art + Design at Indiana University. We have an annually changing event list that has included work with Indiana University’s Habitat for Humanity Chapter, a portfolio show, an internship panel in which seniors talked about their internship experiences with underclassmen, and an annual trip to Chicago to visit various design related locations that has included Millennium Park, the Merchandise Mart, and the IIT campus.
The annual DSSO Chicago field trip allows students to experience design first hand in the city of Chicago with an itinerary that changes each year based on what students want to see. In the past, we have visited the IIT campus, work by Frank Gehry in Millennium Park, and toured an architecture and interior design firm with Indiana University interior design alumni. We have visited showrooms within the Merchandise Mart to learn about the newest materials, products, and furniture in the field of interior design, and have visited design museums and historic sites. This trip allows students to gain a greater understanding of the professional interior design field and inspires better student design work.
